About Us

Colorado Wild Botanicals started from a love of the Colorado wilderness, growing and understanding plants, and raising goats combined with real life practicality, determination, curiosity, and a strong creative drive.

Pamela, the owner, has called Montrose County home for over 50 years. Captivated by the area’s breathtaking beauty during her first visit she moved here shortly after to plant her roots. She spent her first years exploring the rugged mountains and untouched wilderness on horseback. Over time, that deep connection to the land inspired her to cultivate her own plants and expand her farm to include the beloved herd of Saanen goats.

Grounded in her practical nature, she found herself captivated by the intricate beauty of the surrounding plants. As her understanding of these natural gifts grew, she envisioned a new purpose: making botanicals the central theme of her goat milk soaps. Today the vision defines Colorado Wild Botanicals.

With support from good friend Edit to push forward into the world of Farm Markets, and with much determination, experimentation, she honed her first base recipe over 10 years ago, and has been continuing to make soap and increase her knowledge and products ever since.

WIth the business growing and the need for expanding the soap making, a few years ago, she found a partner in Ruth. Ruth shares a love for the Colorado wilderness after growing up in Montrose and also that creative, curious, determined spirit.

The two of them hand-pour every product you see from Colorado Wild Botanicals, and are usually who you will meet at the market.

Ruth and Pamela are constantly learning about the benefits of wild herbs, experimenting with new products, and since that first soap recipe have added multiple formulations, balms, salves, lotions, body butters, candles, and dish soap to their product listing.

Respect for the land, the creatures and each other

In our wild harvesting practices we collect only what can be used and care for what we harvest so nothing is lost. We harvest always with the forest or field in mind so that there is no damage to the area.

Plants that nourish and feed our skin

The plants we choose to use are purposeful, they nourish, soothe, protect and encourage health.

Our packaging is minimal, recyclable, and 100% plastic free.

Quality first

Wild-harvesting and hand-pouring all our products in small batches are both very labor intensive processes. But we value putting in the work to ensure quality and sustainability and never cut corners.

Community rooted

Having both spent most of our lives in Montrose County, we are woven into the community around us. We love partnering with other businesses and participating in the vibrant market culture of the area. We are where we are because of those that have supported us.

Our Farm

Pamela has been raising goats on and off for over 50 years. The small herd of Saanen goats are beautiful, resembling white deer with upright ears and large bright eyes. They are very affectionate and good-natured and produce wonderful tasting milk that makes excellent soap, as well as cheese, kefir and other goat goodies!

Both Ruth and Pam have goats living on their property and love the good company they make. The goats are milked every day, and the milk is quickly frozen to be used in soap as needed.

The goats are gentle, loving, and beautiful and so is the soap made with their milk.

Our Botanicals

Almost all of the botanicals used in our products are wild-harvested in Western Colorado. We pick everything by hand at its peak season. A lot of what we use is growing wild on our own lands. It's amazing when you understand how beneficial the plants we have around us are…and most of us go through our lives not knowing what is right under our own feet!

On a harvest day, we’ll typically spend a full day harvesting one type of plant. We harvest over a large area, so as to not disturb any field making sure to do no damage to the area.

We stay in tune with nature and when things are blooming. For most plants, we need to harvest them when they are flowering and before they go to seed. Everything has a specific harvest time.

When we get back from harvesting, we set to work to clean, dry, and process everything. This is all done by hand as well. We do our best to use every part of the plant and minimize waste. Once everything has been processed, we store it in our shop and it's ready to be incorporated into our products.
